"Change hurts. It makes people insecure, confused, and angry. People want things to be the same as they've always been, because that makes life easier. But, if you're a leader, you can't let your people hang on to the past."

I was talking to the chief executive of a large company. The topic was around how the market has become difficult and how the competition has become really tough. The expectation from the customers is going up day by day.
We have to understand that life in general is becoming difficult day by day and we have to become stronger as we grow in life. We cannot expect the life to become easier and our remaining the same. Life will not become easier, period!
We don't do many things the way we did twenty years ago. We don't cook the same way, we don't drive the same we, we don't type the same way, we don't produce things the same way.
In order to manage things in the fast changing world we started using technology. The cooking technology, the printing technology, the manufacturing technology, the photographic technology etc have changed. But one area we ignore is the technology of dealing with people. If we produce cars the same we produced some twenty years ago, we cannot meet the market demand. Similarly if we deal with people the same way we dealt with them some twenty years ago, we will not be able to get things from them.
Unfortunately we are not investing time and resources on people management portfolio. We have to develop ourselves to manage difficult people and difficult environment. The only way is to develop our people management skills.
