"Enthusiasm and persistence can make an average person superior. Indifference and lethargy can make a superior person average."
William Ward
Today we live in a world of infinite and exciting opportunities. We need to have a lot of enthusiasm and hard work to grow in our career. Growth does not mean just designation change, but in the job content.
I was talking to a good friend of mine who has been elevated to the position of a Director from the post of a General Manager. I explained to him that his approach should change with the new title. All along he was receiving directions to manage the various resources entrusted to him. That's why he was a manager. But now that he a director, he should be giving directions and not receiving directions!
Many of us do not recognize the need to change the content of our work. As we grow in our career, we need to look at enriching our hob content. Enrichment comes from taking more responsibilities. In a career of about thirty years, a person should grow not merely in terms of designations, but also in terms of content. For achieving this we need to enrich our knowledge and skill set.
Actually this is the portfolio of a human resources department. If there is no job enrichment, but only designation change, an organization stops growing and will not be able to fight and survive the competition!
