The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart
 Helen Keller

The same  activity in different contexts will have different involvement and commitment depending on the mindset of the doer. The degree and the quality of commitment and consequently the perseverance level will also be different.

For example take the example of refusal to take food. In one context a child is refusing to eat in front of a very affectionate mother; in the second context a ninety year old sick mother is refusing to eat in front of her very affectionate daughter; in the third context a sick women at ninety is refusing to eat in the presence of a not so duty conscious nurse.

In all the three contexts what should happen is the person should eat and the other person should do something to make it happen. That depends on the quality of perseverance of the person in charge of the activity.

You can easily guess who will make it happen without giving up!

The only difference is a sense of responsibility and ownership for the outcome which will be decided by the emotional commitment. I have always been saying that you cannot manipulate a person to do an activity. An activity can be a result of an internal drive as felt by the person doing it. The more the emotional values assigned by the person, the more will be the commitment, perseverance and quality of work.

Next time when you are involved in an activity check on the above soft issues!
