For the best return on your investment, pour your purse into your head.
Benjamin Franklin
When you decide to go in rain, you need an umbrella. When you want to walk on a chilly morning, you need to wear warm clothing. Without shoes you cannot walk on a hot road. If at all you decide to climb Mount Everest, you need to be equipped with Oxygen and special equipments.
If you ignore this common sense principle, you will suffer, or perhaps die! You need to protect your body with such tools when you have to undertake physically demanding tasks.
In life you also go through mentally demanding tasks like dealing with crisis, handling tough people, facing failures, working with uncooperative people etc. In such situations you need mental tools to manage the same effectively. Consider if you are familiar with the following:
Passion
Compassion
Patience
Presence of mind
Tact
Emotional Intelligence
Creativity
Problem solving skills
These are some of the basic life skills which a school or University will not teach you. You have to read books, go through training programmes, discuss with people and introspect yourself to internalize these skills. You have to invest to acquire these soft tools just like you acquire hard wares to protect your physical body.
Over this weekend do a honest self audit on how you are taking care of this important self development portfolio.
