SELF-LIMITING BELIEFS

"Argue for your limitations and sure enough they're yours."

Richard Bach

"Most of the limitations you think you have are the ones you have decided on. They are often entirely self-imposed. You might think, 'I can't do this, I can't do that, I would never do that, my parents could never do that, I never played baseball, I never climbed a mountain, I never, never, never'... It's the old broken record in your head. Throw out that negative thinking right now! Learn to play a positive message in your head because it's all about attitude."

 David Patchell-Evans

We are driven by two belief systems, one driving us to where we want to be and the other stopping our momentum. The former is called the driving belief and the later the limiting beliefs. Just imagine driving a powerful car with hand brake on! All the energy generated by the engine will be wasted. So will be result if your mind is constantly occupied by negative statements and limiting beliefs.

We may not be aware and conscious, our thoughts result in a self talk in our mind. Such thoughts will get embedded in our mind and over a period of time they will decide our internal image. How we feel and what we do is decided by this inner dialogue and state of mind. Just imagine a lawyer arguing his case before a judge and once the lawyer has given sufficient reasons in support of his case, the judge will decide the issue in favour of the lawyer. Similarly, as we go on justifying our limitations, and think about all the previous experience when the limitations proved to be correct, our mind will accept the same.

Just like a lawyer, it is for us to argue how our limiting beliefs are not true and how our driving beliefs are true. The same mind will accept the same and empower us.
