Make your effort painful!

`Effort is only effort when it begins to hurt'

Jose Ortega Gassett

Are you working hard enough? If so, how do you know? One way to know is to work until it pains you! Surprised? All of us work. The question is: do we work hard enough?

Do you want to become world class in your chosen field? Here's the formula: put in 10,000 hours of focused work in the next ten years! Yes, this magic figure of 10 years and 10,000 hours is the result of a detailed study of world class excellent people in various fields by Dr. Anders Erickson of Texas University. In his thesis `Deliberate Practice' he says that world class success takes this much of effort.

World famous writers don't just write. Years of reading, preparation and research precede their writing. Have you read the novels of Arthur Hailey? Some of his novels were sold more than 170 million copies and sold worldwide in 40 languages. I read somewhere that he will spend more than a year researching on the subject he is going to write, followed by nearly six months of reviewing his notes and finally about 18 months of writing the book! Before writing his famous novel Hotel, he read nearly 27 books on the hotel industry!

Now answer my question: is your effort adequate?
