Is your mind an indisciplined octopus on roller skates?

`Talent without discipline is like an octopus on roller skates. There's plenty of movement, but you never know if it's going to be forward, backwards or sideways'.

H.Jackson Brown Jr.

If you want to be effective and successful, you've to be focused. Do one thing at a time and do it well. It applies not only to doing but also to thinking. Achievers are good at that. Mental discipline as important as physical discipline, for, without mental discipline there can be no physical discipline.

It will be a good idea to notice the various thoughts that cross your mind at any given moment. Once in a way calibrate the longest period of uninterrupted focus on anything. Mind by nature is wandering and you have to train your mind to focus. Meditation is an excellent tool to discipline the mind.

Read the following interview of Sachin Tendulkar:

`It's not easy. Human mind is such that it remembers two things that have gone wrong rather than eight that have gone right. But it's important to remain in the present. The mind has to be completely blank… We call it being in the zone…to tackle the bowlers in the best possible way. For, you have just half a second to react. So, you cannot have too many thoughts going on in the mind'.

Do you now understand why he is a legend?
