[Time-Management] Arise, awake and take charge!

2nd March 2011

Be careful the environment you choose for it will shape you; be careful the friends you choose for you will become like them.

The other day I had been to a surgical ward in a huge hospital to meet a friend of mine who had undergone a renal transplantation surgery. I was discussing with the surgeon who did the operation. He explained to me the preparation required to ensure that the human system accepts the kidney that is implanted in the body. He explained to me that every human body will not accept any kidney and the medical team will carry out a tissue culture in which the tissues of the two persons – the donor and the person who is going to receive the kidney  - to check if the body will accept the same. The surgeon also explained to me that kidney transplantation can take place only between a specific set of donor and the receiver.

I was comparing this process with the replacement of a defective part in an automobile. An automobile does not reject the part as long as the parts are meant for the specific model. Even here, the mechanic will check the compatibility of the part with the automobile.

In human interactions also, this principle of matching is relevant. We may get an idea and if properly pursued the idea may change our life. However, we cannot reach our results by our own efforts alone. We need the environment consisting of the external ambiance and the support and cooperation of people around us. You need to be surrounded by such people who will fuel your enthusiasm and not by people who will dampen your spirits.

If you are excited about your project, people around you should also be equally excited about it. This will result in a charged environment and this setting will sustain your enthusiasm and efforts. Your thoughts and ideas are your own, but they are nurtured or killed by the thoughts and emotions of people around you.

Over this weekend, check if you have a supporting environment and the people, to fuel your efforts and enthusiasm.
