[Time-Management] And here's the balance for the year!

4th February 2013

Image: Your Clothing

Remember this practical piece of advice: Never come to the theater with mud on your feet. Leave your dust and dirt outside. Check your little worries, squabbles, petty difficulties with your outside clothing " all the things that ruin your life and draw your attention away from your art " at the door.

Konstantin Stanislavisky

The way we dress makes an important impact on others. You do not have to wear rich and costly attire. But you have to be presentable. The following points may be useful:

Choose clothes appropriate to your job. Observe how your co-employees dress.

Know the expectations in your work place and appreciate and respect the dress code if any.

Ensure that your clothes are clean and pressed. Ensure that there are not stains dirt.

Check if your shoes are clean and polished.

Ensure that your dress match the occasion. Are you in a formal clothing when others are informal?

If you are wearing a tie, check if the knot is properly in place and the ties is not wrinkled and curled!

Is the colour of your dress too gaudy?

Keep your body, hair and nail well groomed at all times.

You may use perfumes, cologne, etc., but ensure that they are pungent. It may irritate others.

Check the cleanliness of your handkerchief. Is it rolled and dirty?

Ensure that your socks do not smell!

These may be very small things, but they make a big difference to your image and personality. You may not notice them, but others will!

[Time-Management] And here's the balance for the year!

Image: Your External Appearance

The beggar is the only person in the universe not obliged to
study appearance.

Charles Lamb

The first impression is not only the best impression, but also the lasting impression sometimes. We may not be aware, but we create an image about ourselves by the way we present us to the outside world.

The following points may be useful to you:

Always look your best. Do you exhibit restlessness externally?

When it comes to queuing do you wait for your turn or jump the queue?

How is your face? Does it look haggard?

Does your breath smell bad?

Your teeth, are they clean?

Your finger nails, are they clipped and trimmed?

Do you wear a pleasant smile? It costs you practically nothing, but gives you everything!

Do you exhibit any negative mannerism such as biting your nail, exploring your nose, ears etc., in the presence of others?

How is your pace of walking? Is it too fast or too slow?

How do you sit and stand?

How do you speak? Are you too noisy and loud?

Recall to your mind a person who is a role model in this respect and list down five positive points which you noticed in his external appearance. Benchmark yourself with reference to these factors. Have an action plan to improve your image and personality from this point of you!
