Kindness and honesty can be expected only from the strong

How honest are you especially when you are not watched and supervised?

I recall a story.

A forty-year-old goes for fishing with his 10 year old son on a late evening. After a long wait, the boy is excited to catch a big rare fish. But his father looks at the watch and tells his son that it is 7 p.m. which is not the time given to them for fishing and their time to fish is from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and advises his son to release the fish into the water. The boy tells his father that no one has noticed their catching the fish and suggests that they can keep it. The father tells him that honesty is not for the sake of others but an important self directing principle and insists to let go the fish. The boy accepts the advice. As years roll by, the boy grows into adulthood and when he is in 40s, he goes to the same fish pond with his son. He recalls to his son how he accepted honesty as a personal value 30 years ago and missed a fish but got a lot of wealth. He tells his son that if he had opted for the fish and compromised on honesty, perhaps he would have got the fish but not the wealth!

Ponder over this story and assess your honesty index!
