[Time-Management] 100 Thoughts for Self Improvement

30th November 2012

‘All the top achievers I know are lifelong learners…looking for new skills, insights, and ideas. If they’re not learning, they are not growing….not moving towards excellence’

Denis Waitley

Our mind is a ‘thought factory’ and we are powered by our internal thought process and questions. If we have an empowering thought process and right questions, we will succeed in whatever we do regardless of the external difficulties.

Over this weekend ask the following questions to yourself:

  • Am I in the right field at the right time with the right talent and skill?
  • Is there some other platform where I can showcase my talent even better?
  • Am I  the best in my field?
  • If not, am I taking adequate efforts to bridge the gap?
  • Do I have the inner drive to do what I have to do?
  • Am I working hard enough to realise my dreams?
  • Do I have the passion to beat the obstacle on my way to achievement?
  • Am I surrounded by such people who will kindle me to work hard and smart?
  • What is my countermeasure if I suffer a temporary failure?
  • Am I fully aware of the changes that are taking place in my field and what effort am I now taking to face the challenges of the future?

The mind of an achiever will be filled with such empowering thought process and questions.

What about you?

[Time-Management] 100 Thoughts for Self Improvement

29th November 2012

‘Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle’.

Christian D. Larson

Just think: at the time when Henry Ford was trying to make the first automobile, was he the only one person who was trying to do so? An athlete working for a Gold Medal, is not the only person dreaming an Olympic Gold!

The world is full of opportunities and at any point of time millions of people are trying to achieve something or other using their talent skill. Threats and risks are common to all.

Mahatma Gandhi won freedom for India in spite of obstacles; Neil Armstrong Landed on the moon in spite of difficulties; Barak Obama won the second term as US President in spite of obstacles and the list can be very long!

All these people shared the same platform with others. But while others gave up when faced with obstacles, these people persevered. While obstacles made others to withdraw, it made these people to develop a killer instinct to beat the obstacles.

I can give only one reason for this phenomenon: ‘Passion’!

Just ask one question to yourself: do I have the passion to achieve my goal? If you have, you will ignore all the obstacles, if you don’t have, you will give up!

It’s as simple as that!

[Time-Management] 100 Thoughts for Self Improvement

‘It is one thing to praise discipline, and another to submit to it’

Miguel de Cervantes

I was driving on the high ways from San Antonio to Houston the other day. The traffic was smooth, fast and disciplined. One of my friends was admiring the same and commented that if this is the discipline how can there be an accident.

I explained to him that in any system individual discipline is more important than the team discipline. All the hundreds and thousands of the drivers could be highly disciplined, but all their discipline will become a waste if one driver applies the brake suddenly, crosses the lane or over speeds.

Lets us take even the human system. There are hundreds of parts in the body. If one part, just only one part malfunctions, it will affect the overall health of the person, no matter how sound are the other parts. We complain that the traffic is indisciplined, that people don’t do their duty in a responsible way, that the politicians are corrupt, that the students are casual etc. Before passing such comments, ask the following self check questions:

  • Am I disciplined?
  • Am I responsible?
  • Am I doing my duties sincerely?
  • Am I punctual?
  • Am I following the road rules honestly?

Just imagine how good our society will be if everyone corrects himself?

[Time-Management] 100 Thoughts for Self Improvement!

27th November 2012

`Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned'

Buddha

People who take alcohol experience a state called `hangover' resulting in a kind of nagging headache which will interfere with their daily work routine. The reason is the effect of alcohol on the brain chemical.

Have you experienced another type of hangover which I call as `irritation and anger hangover'? This is what you experience when you get angry and irritated at someone and the feeling haunts you long after the event which caused the same!

This state of mind will affect your emotional wellness. I say very often that our brain is a chemical factory and our mind is a thought factory.  We need to take care of both these factories. Any chemical imbalance in the mind can be corrected by medicine. But medicine will not change our negative emotional state caused by anger and irritation hangover.

You can get over the anger and irritation hangover by developing mental maturity and forgive the person who caused you to feel angry and irritated. One way to do it is to develop compassion for the person. Compassion will help you forgive that person.

You may not be willing and happy to do so. But you have to understand that when you are haunted by unproductive negative emotions, you are the person to be affected first and your work will suffer!

[Time-Management] Learn from the Master Blaster!

26th November 2012

Learn from the Master Blaster!

We have to learn from great people how they succeeded. We may not get an opportunity to meet them and discuss their success formula. But the media interviews could help us.

I don't know how many of you would have watched the interview of Sachin Tendulkar with Arnab Goswami. For those of you who have not, I give below the link in the youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8qb3hSjzVQ

Watch the entire 9 episodes one after the other each episode running to few minutes!

Thanks
