Wise men don't need advice. Fools won't take it.
Benjamin Franklin

Advice is like snow - the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper in sinks into the mind.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge

As you live your life, there will come occasions when you will have to give advice to others. Sometimes it may not be your choice to offer advice and your role will impose that responsibility on you. If you want to be responsible and effective in that role, you have to give your advice!

Whenever you have to do it, remember the following things:

  • Are you the right person to give the advice or should you seek the help of a professional?
  • Are you giving the right advice, since the quality of your advice will affect the quality of life of the other person?
  • Is the other person mature enough to receive your advice?
  • Are you mature enough to deal with the response of the other person receiving the advice?
  • Are you willing not to be emotionally attached to your advice so that you can change your advice if you are convinced that you are wrong?

Remember that the credibility of the advice giver is more important than that of the advice receiver and this will affect the quality of interpersonal relationship.

Recall the last time when you gave an advice to someone and check how you fared on the above parameters!
