Technology Without Discipline Will Result in Disaster!
Things don't turn up in this world until somebody turns them up.
James A Garfield
We live in a world which is driven by technology. Compared to our parents and grand parents, the technology that is available to us is very great. Consequently, our life is easier. We do not have to work hard, and we work smart. Our travel is easier and more comfortable, and writing and communication is fast, we have more channels of television to watch and we work less and enjoy more. But in on one important area we are fairing badly - discipline. Our parents and grand parents were more disciplined than we are. We enjoy this quality of life regardless of the quality of discipline.
Look at the quality of driving on the roads. Technology has given us speedier and more comfortable cars and two wheelers. There is nothing wrong in using technology to make our life easier and comfortable. But what we should not be compromising on is the quality of discipline. We don't care about the speed limits or about the safety rules.
The same applies to other areas also. Technology has given more medicines and drugs. But we are not disciplined in using the drugs. Technology has given us more entertainment channels. But look at the quality of the telecast. Technology has given more leisure time. But look what we are doing with that time? Information technology has given access to more and speedier information through the internet. But look at how some of us are using the internet?
Use of technology without discipline will certainly lead to disaster. When that happens, the disaster will be of a greater dimension since the disaster is powered by the same technology!
This week end, spend a few minutes as to whether you are using restraint in using any technological invention in your day to day life. If you are speeding up your automobile, don't. If you are over using your mobile phone, don't. Check how you are spending your leisure time. Be conscious about using drugs and medicines. Spend some time on this important parameter with your children.
