Check for your prejudices….

There is a criterion by which you can judge whether the thoughts you are thinking and the things you are doing are right for you. The criterion is: Have they brought you inner peace? If they have not, there is something wrong with them -- so keep seeking! If what you do has brought you inner peace, stay with what you believe is right.

Peace Pilgrim

We are all human beings and we have our likes and dislikes. We like some people or some things and we don't like others. We may not know why, but we do have this kind of prejudice in our mind. While we cannot completely eliminate this human nature, we need to ensure that this aspect does not hinder our progress. Whether we like it or not, we have to move with some people and we have to live with some things in our life.

One prejudice which will have long term implication on our life is the prejudice against some person. We may not like a person for some known or unknown reasons. Because we don't like that person, everything that person does will appear to be wrong. We may not trust him. We may get irritated. If not handled properly, we will land ourselves in a problem.

When it comes to prejudice against a person, we need to evaluate if our prejudice is based on facts or based on opinion. Opinion based prejudice may be more intense than fact based prejudice. If our prejudice is based on facts, we need to verify our facts. We need to check the possibility if our facts could be wrong or our source of information could be wrong. Sometimes, an information or a fact could be true at a point of time and not at another point of time. Because we are prejudiced against a person, we may be tempted to listen only to such `facts' in support of our prejudice. People around us may not be interested to give us information which is against our prejudice because they know that we may not listen to them in any way!

If we do not notice and deal with wrong prejudices, over a period of time it will spoil your inner peace.

Today evening, list down at least three people whom you don't like. Check if it is a prejudice. If it is so, check if your facts in support of your prejudice are correct. It is in your interest to sort out this issue if you want to work with people. After all we need the help of others to succeed in life.
